festivals School films travel the world in December December, much like November, is filled with festivals screening JSFS films: Cinemamed, Brussels is screening Listening In ; Solidarity Film Festival, Tel Aviv is screening the Gospel According to Elias; and Alas is screening in the Sao Paulo Film Festival, Brazil. News The only Israeli film in the official Clermont-Ferrand competition "What Has Changed" by Salomon Chokol is the only Israeli film taking part in the official competition at the prestigeous Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival. Out of 8200 films submitted just 77 were selected inlcuding this sensitve and sharp portrayal of an Ethiopian-Israeli family.

At the core of the program is the concept of a short film. By focusing on the short film, students learn to define a location and a timeframe allowing each production to go ahead with full creative and financial backing. Main Track Screenwriting Film & Television Department Over a period of four years, the JSFS trains its students in all of the practical and theoretical arts of film and television: directing, cinematography, editing, scriptwriting and production. This instruction is done in stages through professional and artistic assignments which are performed under the supervision and direction of first-rate teachers and educators. The educational methodology is based on a syllabus that is updated yearly and which incorporates theory with practical studies. From the moment students enter the School, they are part of a progressive system in which they move ahead both as a group and on an individual basis. JSFS has an open and pluralistic approach allowing each student artistic freedom and a personal voice. Over the four years of study, students engage with leading teachers and cultural leaders from Israel and elsewhere. At the core of the program is the concept of a short film. By focusing on the short film, students learn to define a location and a timeframe allowing each production to go ahead with full creative and financial backing. Starting as early as the first year, students take part in school productions and thus acquire knowledge along with experience and expertise in various aspects of filmmaking. This is in addition to workshops focusing on direction, scriptwriting, cinematography, production, edition and documentary exercises. During their third year, students have the opportunity to focus their expertise in a specific topic: either editing, cinematography or production. And during the second half of that year they will begin the process of writing the script for their graduation film. Acceptance into JSFS is selective and only a limited number of applicants get in every year – as the School invests financial and human resources in order to ensure that each student reaches their personal and professional best. News Four school films at the leading LGBT film festival, TLV ReFeel by Omer Harel, My Sweet Boy by Yaniv Lavie, Ants by Hadar Bones and Claude Bardini and Me by Barak Cohen are all taking part in this important festival - this year taking place again in person.

News The Jerusalem Sam Spiegel International Film Lab Awards announced at the close of its celebratory 10th Edition The $50,000 Sam Spiegel International Film Lab Grand Prize, generously donated by the Beracha Foundation, was awarded last night to Zejtune from writer-director Alex Camilleri and producers Rebecca Anastasi from Malta and Ramin Bahrani , USA. Semaine de la Critique artistic director, Ava Cahen , the head of this year’s jury presented the prize at a gala ceremony hosted by the French Consulate in Jerusalem. the jury decided to split the Sam Spiegel International Film Lab Emerging Filmmaker Award into two extraordinary projects: Elka’s Not a Shiksa | Aleeza Chanowitz and Red Gold | Mathieu Volpe. FACTORY 54 awarded the $8,000 Artistic Vision Award, to Ice and Cream writer-director: Oshri Zeituni

Prizes First Prize! And many more at TISFF 2025 Major prizes for school films at the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival! The first prize, for best film went to "After Counting All Votes" by Amnon Helsberg!! Best screenplay went to Yehuda Bogolomny for "The Witness" Mika Freeman won best editing prize for "Kamad", directed by Anna Maria Hawa The Filmmakers Forum Prize was awarded to Roni Yaniv and Roee Nagan won the critics choice Well-done!!

JSFL 12th Edition! International Film Lab hybrid session It was an amazing week, at the second session of the 12th edition of the International Film Lab. We had it all- intense personal work with our wonderful mentors; inspiring masterclasses with the best professionals, and peers input that made us all closer- even though we had to be apart, due to the circumstances. We are confident that the scripts are a glimpse away from their final version, that will meet the world soon. We pray for peace and having all our teams in Jerusalem with us in July. News Mayor of NYC at Sam Spiegel We were honored to host Eric Adams, Mayor of NYC, at our school last night. He is on a whirlwind visit of Israel and made sure to get an impression of our new campus! After a rooftop reception the mayor was greeted by faith leaders from all over Israel who gave their blessing for a successful journey.

News First Prize for graduation film "Do You Want to Cross the Sea" Recent graduate, Michal Veig, won first prize at DocAviv 2022 for her beautiful "Do You Want to Cross the Sea". The jury wrote: "For its refreshing and creative cinematic vision, its concise editing and for its sensitive and thoughtful directing. The film captures its spectators and draws them into a moving and multi-dimensional story of immigration and exile experienced twice over, and of a protagonist that wholeheartedly and against all odds insists on believing in his dream."

". לורן התרגשה מהפנייה והסכימה מייד וגם שלחה סרטון מצולם שלה עם מילים מעוררות השראה במיוחד לסטודנטים הצעירים: "לא סיימתי לימודים בתיכון, לא למדתי באוניברסיטה. אף פעם לא למדתי משחק. לחיים היו תוכניות אחרות עבורי, אבל הלוואי שהייתי עושה את כל השלושה. חינוך הוא חשוב, לא רק כי הוא מלמד אתכם לחשוב וללמוד, לשאול את השאלות הנכונות, אלא אולי חשוב מכך, הוא מעמיד אתכם בסביבה בטוחה ונטולת שיפוטיות, שבה אפשר לעשות טעויות יחד וללמוד מההצלחות והכישלונות של האחר. לחיות בשלום עם כישלון עד שמצליחים. וללמוד לקום בכל פעם שנופלים, אלה הדברים שיסללו את הדרך למימוש הפוטנציאל שלכם בחיים. אז בכל פעם שאתם נופלים היו אסירי תודה, מכיוון שזה יעניק לכם את ההזדמנות לקום ולהיות קצת יותר חזקים. אם החיים לימדו אותי משהו, זה לא לצפות לדבר, אך לקוות לכול. ציפיות תמיד יובילו לאכזבות, תקוות יובילו להגדלת החלומות וכשתעשו את זה הכול יהיה אפשרי. אני מציעה לכם ליהנות מכל שלב של תהליך היצירה, בייחוד מהחלקים שמהם אתם מפחדים, החלקים שנוגעים בחוסר הביטחון הכי עמוק שלכם. ואולי באמת הכי עמוק והדבר הכי חשוב, למדו להקשיב לקול הפנימי שלכם, קולו של האינסטינקט שלכם. האינסטינקט שלכם הוא כוח-העל שלכם, האינסטינקט שלכם הוא מה שמבדיל אתכם מכל השאר. למדו לסמוך על הקול הזה. במשך תקופה ארוכה מאוד סמכתי על קולותיהם של אנשים סביבי יותר מעל זה שלי, אבל זו הייתה טעות. אם אוכל לעזור לכם היום איכשהו, זה בכך שאבקש מכם לסמוך על הקול הפנימי שלכם, אפילו אם תטילו בו ספק בהתחלה. ספק אין משמעו שאתם לא בכיוון הנכון. לפעמים המשמעות של ספק היא שאתם מפחדים ללכת בכיוון שעלול לשקף את זהותכם העמוקה ביותר. אמצו את הספק, אמצו את הקול הפנימי הזה. סמכו על עצמכם ולעולם אל תוותרו."

News Successful end to the ninth edition of the Sam Spiegel International Film Lab The ninth edition of the prestigious Sam Spiegel International Film Lab held its annual closing event, in a live in-person happening from Jerusalem. At the festive awards ceremony the inspiring jury awarded the top prize to Oxygen by Netalie Braun, produced by Adi Bar Yossef (Israel). The Emerging Filmmaker Award was split between two projects: Iris (Cyprus) by Myrsini Aristidou, produced by Nathalie Dennes; and Sisters by Marianna Brennand Fortes and produced by Carolina Benevides (Brazil). Both with the generous support of the Beracha Foundation. A new additional prize this year is the FACTORY 54 Artistic Vision Award, was presented to Seven Chapters in Survival by Odeya Rosenak, produced by Marek Rozenbaum. Director of the Jerusalem Film Fund, Yoram Honig, spontaneously offered a new opportunity- each of the Israeli projects will be granted 4 sessions of mentorship with an inspiring figure of their choice in a cinematic discipline- music, design, cinematography- to forward their creative exploration.
