    News HotDocs World Premiere for Alumna Margarita Linton The Artist's Daughter, Oil on Canvas , by Margarita Linton will have its world premiere at the leading HotDocs Film Festival. Other alumni on board are cinematographer and producer Yaniv Linton, editor Neta Dvorkis and composer Nadav Hollander. Following HotDocs the film will have its national premiere at DocAviv.

    News First Prize for graduation film "Do You Want to Cross the Sea" Recent graduate, Michal Veig, won first prize at DocAviv 2022 for her beautiful "Do You Want to Cross the Sea". The jury wrote: "For its refreshing and creative cinematic vision, its concise editing and for its sensitive and thoughtful directing. The film captures its spectators and draws them into a moving and multi-dimensional story of immigration and exile experienced twice over, and of a protagonist that wholeheartedly and against all odds insists on believing in his dream."

    News Best Student Film at the Haifa Film Festival was awarded to "Ordinary" by Gil Fermon Really proud of our alum Gil Fermon whose "Ordinary" won First Prize at the 2022 Haifa Film Festival. The jury stated that this is a film that "shows the continued harsh reality of youngsters in Israel with a deft hand, rhythmic editing, adept shooting and tight acting. The filmmaker is derserving of praise".

    News Tribeca Film Festival! "The Future" is in Tribeca! Congratulations to school and Lab alum Noam Kaplan whose film "The Future" will premiere at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival. Written and directed by Kaplan, and produced by alumni Aurit Zamir and Yoav Roeh of Gum Films, "The Future" is a political drama developed at our 2017 Lab which will screen as part of the International Narrative Competition.

    News DocAviv 2022 includes recent graduate films and many alumni DocAviv, Israel's leading documentary film festival, will screen two films by recent graduates. Gaya Elstein's "Man's Best Friend" and "Do You Want to Cross the Sea" by Michal Veig. Both are strong films that tell intimate and important stories about the society in which we live.

    news Margarita Linton wins DocAviv Mayor of Tel Aviv Award Thrilled to announce that our alumna and teacher, Margarita Linton, has won the DocAviv 2022 prize for Best Debut Film. The jury statement reads: "This bold and creative debut feature appears to use cinema in an inventively therapeutic manner that showed great promise to this jury. Choosing to approach the subject of an artist and their work through the complicating factor of the director's own proximity to this artist, the film offers both a dual portrait narrative and a struggle for authorship and agency that exhibits real potential all the way to the film's closing revelations. Margarita and Yaniv Linton, with this debut work, have marked themselves out as a directorial duo to watch in coming years."

    News The 10th edition of the International Film Lab The 10th edition of the Lab met for the first time! Even though we are online again and it was only a virtual toast, it’s great to see the new faces that will bring to the world some amazing stories! Good luck to all of the directors and producers! The 10th edition features 12 projects from countries including Malta, Belgium, Albania, Finland, Germany and Israel. Our mentors this year are the terrific team of Clare Downs, Thomas Hailer, Jacques Akchoti and Eran Riklis.

  • Series Lab second edition kicks off

    News Series Lab second edition kicks off The Sam Spiegel Series Lab heads into second edition with Netflix, Joe Peracchio (“The Flash”), Ossi Nishri (“Scenes of a Marriage”) and Dror Mishani (“The Missing File”) joining as mentors. The Lab also added new partnership deals with film & TV production company New Mandate Films, United King Films, The Jerusalem Film and Television Fund and The Jerusalem Municipality. A total of eight Israeli projects out of 100 submissions have been selected for the Lab. All 8 projects are headed by first-time lead writers, and six are female led. Amongst the writers are Orit Fouks Rotem, director of “Cinema Sabaya”, Israel’s entry for best international feature at the Academy Awards; Guy Raz, DOP of the successful feature “Rabies” and the Israeli series broadcast on HBO MAX “On the Spectrum”; and actress Nur Fibak (“Ahed's Knee”).
